Dr Premchand is currently the Endoscopy Lead of Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust (BHRT). He works predominantly at the new Queen's Hospital in Romford. The BHRT Gastroenterology Unit consists of ten gastroenterologists and ten surgeons and is a major centre for gastroeneterology.
In a recent gastroenterology initiative, Dr Premchand has set up his Department at Queen's as a tertiary referral centre for treating the more difficult cases of Irritable Bowel Disease (Refractory IBD). This means that other secondary care Gastroenterologists will refer patients to him for specific types of treatment including Granulocute Apheresis (for which he is very much the UK pioneer), for those patients in refractory IBD. His own series of colonic and oesophageal stents are one of the largest in the world and he has been involved with several major international publications on interventional treatment in gastrointestinal (GI) malignancies.
His personal philosophy is, “to give utmost care and satisfaction to my patients without compromising safety" Dr Premchand received his MBBS from Kerala University in 1988, his MD from Mangalore University in 1992, and his UK MRCP in 1994. .
