Mr Beechey-Newman trained at Guy's Hospital Medical School between 1977 and 1983. He spent 14 years in general surgical training before joining the Breast Unit as Guy's and St.Thomas' Hospitals. He now specialises exclusively in breast disorders including benign breast problems, breast cancer and breast reconstructive surgery following breast cancer.
Mr Beechey-Newman sees patients privately at The Lister Hospital. He was responsible for running the Guy's Hospital breast pain clinic, the family history clinic and the Guy's and St.Thomas part of the National Breast Screening programme.
Nicolas headed up the Guy's and St.Thomas, sentinel node biopsy programme which he started in 1998. He is president of the International Society for Mammary Endoscopy.
He specialises exclusively in breast disorders including breast cancer, breast reconstructive surgery and all aspects of benign breast problems. He was one of the first surgeons in the UK to perform sentinel node biopsy after visiting Dr Armando Giuliano who first described the technique.
Nicolas also pioneered breast duct micro-endoscopy in Europe. He has researched and written extensively on these two subjects the latter being the subject of more than 2,000 media articles.
Recent research publications include articles on breast duct micro-endoscopy, sentinel node biopsy, breast cancer occurring in very young women (under the age of 25 years), Paget's disease of the nipple and tubular carcinoma.
